Steve’s take

Universal Orlando used to be the runner-up theme park you went to when you ran out of Disney days. Now? Three parks, one of them brand new (Epic Universe opened 2025), Wizarding World on both sides of CityWalk, the wildest coaster lineup in Florida, and on-property hotels that include Express Pass with your room key. It's not Disney's understudy anymore — for older kids and teens, it's the headliner. Lisa and I have booked Universal trips for Pixie clients since the days when the Hulk coaster's green paint actually flaked off in your lap. This plan respects what makes Universal different: shorter park days, longer coaster lines, more thrill-per-square-foot. Drive in over two days, park days three through five, CityWalk dinner on the last night, drive home Day 7 with kids who suddenly love butterbeer.

Who this trip is for

  • Families with kids 8+ (height-eligible for the marquee coasters)
  • Harry Potter fans of any age — Diagon Alley + Hogsmeade in one trip
  • Teen-heavy families graduating beyond Disney
  • Anyone within ~600 mi of Orlando weighing the drive vs. fly — same rule applies as the WDW version

  1. Rope-drop: Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

    Mile 0 · Morning of

On-property guests get Early Park Admission. In line by 7:45 AM. Hagrid's line balloons from 30 min at 8 AM to 180 min by 11. After Hagrid's, hit Hogsmeade (Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks).

  2. Lunch at Three Broomsticks (Hogsmeade)

    Mile 0 · Stretch / break

Fish & chips, Cornish pasties, butterbeer (cold, frozen, hot — try all three over the trip). Mobile-order if you can. Then Forbidden Journey inside Hogwarts (your Express Pass works on it).

  3. Velocicoaster (after dark)

Day 4

Want help locking in Universal Orlando too?

Steve has booked Universal trips since the parks opened and knows which on-property hotels are worth the upgrade. Pixie agents are free to use (the resort/cruise line pays our commission, not you), watch for price drops you’d otherwise miss, and pull room locations the booking sites don’t show. Disney/Universal/cruise prices climb the closer you get — booking early gets you the best rate and pick.
