Steve’s take

726 feet tall, 1,244 feet long, finished in 1936 during the Depression with three Pacific-coasts' worth of concrete. Spans the Black Canyon of the Colorado River — half is in Nevada, half is in Arizona (and the time zone changes at the state line on the dam itself). Park on the AZ side, walk across, take the Powerplant Tour (1 hr, $15) or the full Dam Tour (2 hr, $30) to ride the elevator 530 ft down into the dam's interior. Then drive the Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge for the postcard view from above.
